Sadly there is growing use of legal persecution in Scotland. Regretfully the Scottish Government and SNP controlled Glasgow City Council stand accused of doing nothing to stop it. It would be easy to make a case that they are quite keen on it.

We have heard that Craig Murray has been found guilty of the ludicrous and politically motivated charges he faced. Both Alex Salmond and Mark Hirst were able to defeat the moves against them but this article deals with a lesser known person. The political persecution of Manny Singh.

Let me make clear I don’t know him, have never met him and have only briefly spoke with him on the phone when he contacted me asking for my help in publishing his case. I am aware of his involvement and controversy in AUOB but I take no side on that.

I decided to give him support because I believe the sentence he received for refusing to change the time of a previously agreed pro Indy March, on the basis that people were travelling to attend from all over Scotland and had already booked travel tickets based on the originally agreed time, was grossly excessive Now Glasgow Council, after him serving his prison sentence are planning to remove his livelihood as a taxi driver on the basis his conviction makes him an unfit person to hold a taxi license. It is just plain bullying. It looks, because it is, an effort to intimidate anyone involved in organizing pro Indy activity that occurs without SNP ENDORSEMENT. I will let Manny make his own appeal.

The Scottish Independence Movement announce their intention to hold a fundraiser in favour of their member Mr Manny Singh. As you are well aware, he was charged by Police Scotland at the behest of Glasgow City Council for failing to change the start time of a procession, an order that he believes was placed to restrict numbers and show less support for Scottish Independence. As a result, on 25 August 2020, Mr Singh was convicted at Glasgow Sheriff Court and sentenced to imprisonment in Barlinnie Prison.

Furthermore, Glasgow City Council has ordered that because of his incarceration, he is not deemed to be a fit and proper person to hold his taxi license and is a threat to public safety. Having taken his freedom, they now want to take his livelihood.

The costs of defending his reputation and only source of income have already reached £1,200 and are rising.   The cost for appealing the decision of the Licensing Committee through legal representation will be £5,000.   It is Manny’s intention to consider appealing the conviction and this will incur a cost of a further £1,500.

The Scottish Independence Movement want to acknowledge and thank the people of Scotland who generously donated their hard-earned cash to our first Crowdfunder in these uncertain times. All these donations were returned with thanks as they were no longer needed at that time but, goodness how the circumstances have changed. We are now appealing once more to the people of Scotland to help Manny Singh with his legal battles.

If you are unable to donate can you please share this post.
