Growth is going to be hugely difficult
I don’t think they have a clue about growth. To achieve growth there is a requirement to have business confident. Given the current uncertainty in the UK where are the businesses that are going to invest the billions of pounds to make the difference? With inflation running amok and consumer confidence falling by the minute I just don’t see how any growth is possible or likely. To build consumer confidence people must have a comfortable level of disposable income. With galloping inflation, rising prices, mortgage rates on the up, wages failing to keep up with prices, disposable income is shrinking, disappearing altogether for many. In my mind growth in these circumstances is simply not going to happen.
The Pound
This is also a serious problem. You may remember in 2014 there was no shortage of boasts about the great strength of the British pound. At that time the DOLLAR traded at $1.70 to the pound. Today it currently trades at $1.10 to the pound, a huge fall in the value of the pound.. This very poor performance puts the price of imports up. While Scotland has a balance of trade surplus the rest of the UK is totally dependent on imports. In fact Scotland is contributing even more to the UK economy than before as one of our key earners, gas and oil is priced in dollars so the contribution those resources are contributing to London are even higher than before the pound slumped. You will not read about that in any UK newspaper or hear about it on the BBC.
The Energy Crisis
Scotland gas supplies are six times our national requirement. We also produce much more renewable electricity than we can possibly use so talk of energy blackouts this winter serve to highlight that our “better together” energy system is anything but for Scotland. These energy resources are given away at ludicrous low value by Scottish suppliers only to be sold back to Scottish consumers at exorbitant prices. This is only possible because we are not independent. Much more to come on this over this winter.
Privatisation
There is no doubt privatisation has been a huge mistake. Unlike Norway who continued to ensure a state involvement in oil and gas, resulting in them enjoying a $400 BILLION BONANZA the UK has only realised a tiny fraction of that and Scotland whose resources it was in the first place, a tiny fraction of that already tiny fraction. Tell Sid was the slogan of privatisation in the 1980’s, well I would strangle Sid if I could get my hands on him today. We lost control of our utilities to the giant corporations and we now witness our resources sold off at huge cost to….ourselves. We are being ripped off daily! Our politicians are useless, look elsewhere for the solutions!

YOURS FOR SCOTLAND
BEAT THE CENSORS
Unfortunately some pro Indy websites are not pro Indy. They are pro SNP sites and ban any content on their sites which dares to question the SNP or the SNP leader. They seek to censor discussion and free expression. Fortunately many of my readers share the articles on Yours for Scotland frequently and because of this the attempted censorship is proving ineffective. This support is very important and I thank everyone who share and protect freedom of speech and choice.
