Congratulations you have joined a secret society
Welcome new members of the SNP. if you believe the propaganda there are thousands of you. I look forward to my sources, of which I have many, confirming these vast numbers of new members information has been passed on to local branches in the form of names and other information in the very near future. I know, I know it is too early for that to happen as yet. I also know because what limited calls I did make in advance of writing this article revealed net losses in membership from the start of the year to now. Administrative backlog I am sure explains it.
These new members will be confronted with a very different SNP to the one I was a member of. In my day the ordinary member, branch and CA’s held the power. They selected the candidates for the Party with little interference, voting was transparent and fair, no candidates were pre selected or given any advantage or enhanced ranking. Who the members voted for determined the final result. It was even possible, to discuss policies and ideas, put them in a form of resolution and send them to HQ in the hope they would be selected for debate at National Conference. How radical was all that?
No more, everything is controlled now, the last Conference in November did not discuss a single resolution submitted by any branch in the entire country, a committee at the centre of the Party carried out the required surgery to make sure all discussion was confined to motherhood and apple pie.
The latest outrage is the fixing of the No1 spots on the regional lists reserved for the BAME in 50% of the regions and this has allowed a Mr Campbell, a Glasgow councillor with the 84th out of 85 councillors worst attendance record on the Glasgow council, to top the list in Lothians. He has no record of any involvement in Lothian prior to being “elected”. He is Anne Mc Laughlin MP partner though. She of course replaced Joanna Cherry QC, MP on the front bench as Justice Spokesperson. She was a drama student, so I will say no more. I don’t want to be accused of creating a scene. I think this is a huge mistake but given the way I feel about the NEW SNP I have got to admit I hope it is. I really have lost all faith in the current leadership, while I maintain respect for the many ordinary members whose loyalty to the Party is being strained to breaking point as the “crazies” tighten their grip on all the processes that are meant to maintain Party democracy and balance. THIS WILL NOT END WELL.
This is Mr Campbell’s public record, he was elected SNP Glasgow City Councillor for Springburn/Robroyston Ward on May 4th 2017. Previous an SSP/Solidarity and RISE member he joined the SNP after the 2016 Brexit vote. These dates are interesting, in my time candidates required to be a member for a full year before being selected as a candidate. The Brexit referendum was held on the 23rd June 2016 and Mr Campbell joined after it. It’s quite a trick to then to be elected on the 4th May less than a year later. Maybe the rules had changed or else Mr Campbell qualified for a special exemption? Maybe this is where the habit started? He has a community development background as a tenant and refugee rights activist in Sighthill, North Glasgow, he worked as a community development consultant and charitable fundraiser – in the office of Anne McLaughlin the MP for Glasgow North East.
Some of his community involvement work has been hampered by organisational and financial difficulties and closure. To be fair, however, it is a remarkable rise for someone who only joined in 2016. He is certainly a favoured son, of course it helps if both you and the girlfriend can vote yourself the favoured status on the list, without recusing yourselves on the NEC vote that got through on the casting vote of the chair Kirsten Oswald, who ignored the normal practice of using her casting vote to maintain the status quo. Did I mention she is appointed rather than elected as the chair? So he is helping himself while also getting a wee hand up by those close to him. He once publicly claimed he was “horizontally recruited” to the Party by his partner Anne McLaughlin. You can’t get much closer than that!
So there you have it, for all you new members here is a route to power that has worked for Mr Campbell. No doubt the Party Leader and the Woke will not stand in your way.
The only fly in the ointment is there might not be any SNP voters left by the time you get there as Mr Campbell and his woke friends continue to force more divisive policies on the SNP to recreate the happy electoral support he enjoyed when he was a member of the SSP, Solidarity and Rise.
The NEW SNP “system” is so fair members are not allowed to know the results, nobody must be allowed to tell members how many votes each candidate recorded, that includes the candidates themselves. This is vital as if this information was known the system could be challenged in court and as the NEC were warned by the legal advice from an eminent QC that it was potentially illegal, leaving the Party wide open to legal costs and damages amounting to many hundreds of thousands of pounds, potentially bankrupting the Party. SUCH QUALITY GOVERNANCE THESE DAYS.
The solution? Have elections and then tell the voters the result minus any information. “Trust us guv we got it right” is the system. How many proud SNP members are willing to go along with this I ask? What happened to the decades long commitment of generations of past members to democratic elections, transparency and control? What gives the current membership the right to betray those traditions? Because complete betrayal it is! I don’t think the Party will survive this break with decency and tradition.
The house is beginning to crumble, a poll this weekend shows Nicola’s popularity rating has halved, 40% don’t believe she has been honest with the Inquiry and 60% think she should resign if she broke the ministerial code. Many will be disappointed, I hope it is sufficient to end the inane “Look at the polls” response we have been living with for years as the Wokerati destroy the Party. Maybe now, before it is too late, folk will open their eyes to what has being going on and take action to get their Party back. If not, it’s up to the “new members” to be a bit more diligent and bright and take Scotland’s main Independence Party forward on the Independence road it should never have ever left.
Welcome to the new SNP.
