YOU COMING THIS SATURDAY?
Sir
This Saturday will be the 317th anniversary of the Act of Union. As with any anniversary one looks at the past but thinks about the future. During this period, proportionately more Scots have sacrificed their lives in ‘British’ wars than any other part of the so-called United Kingdom. Nuclear weapons and waste have been cavalierly dumped from Caithness to Rosyth to Kircudbright.
Whilst not much acknowledged internationally, Scottish people like the Irish have been driven to emigrate seeking opportunities not open to them here in greater numbers leading to one of the most significant losses of people in Western Europe.
For generations Scotland has had the lowest life expectancy of all the countries in our so-called Union, not something which could have been easily turned around by 16 years of devolved nationalist government.
Like the Welsh, we have had our language suppressed and been deprived of the opportunity to learn about our own history; they at least, have successfully managed to preserve and promote their language and culture despite the best efforts of the British state to wipe it out.
The Scottish Crown Office, like some sort of Mafia protection racket, takes a percentage of the wealth Scotland generates from its resources, be they energy related or from water, wind or fishing productivity, to make a massive contribution to the UK Treasury and to line the pockets of the parasites masquerading as our ‘Royal’ Family.
But as Congressman John Lewis the great civil rights campaigner once said ‘we are tired of being patient, we are tired of waiting, we are tired of watching our people suffer.
This Saturday, via the Stirling Directive, the people will be heard.
Yours faithfully

AND
Sir
Derek Farmer, Alexander HN Gray and Marrtin O’Gorman are at it again: insinuating that other perspectives and cultures, particularly our distinctive Scottish one, are less valid than that of the imaginary UK. When was the last time they visited Northern Ireland, England or Wales? Are they not aware that people from Yorkshire believe themselves to have a distinctive heritage of which they could claim that Wilberforce was a product? It is fast becoming apparent to people in Northern Ireland that they have more in common with the residents of their shared island than they do with the Westminster colonial administration for which they are simply an irritant.
The idea that there is some sort of ‘UK’ singular identity, or that ‘Britain'(for which read England) reflects and encompasses all of us is fast becomong an anachronism. Sorry chaps.
Yours faithfully
MARJORIE ELLIS THOMPSON
