A BOY CALLED SUE

By DW

Prof Alf Baird coined the phrase, ‘SCORTCHED EARTH POLICY’ with regards the current SNP Governments increasing incompetence.

And while the ‘both votes SNP – party faithful’ will of course argue, ‘they’re not doing it deliberately, they’re just useless – and pointing it out is the work of the Unionists – you traitor!’ Some of us with brains find this to be thin gruel indeed.

But moving on, another example of their utter stupidity in Governance, is the recent revelation that primary school children will be able to self-identify into whatever identity they choose, including using a different name to describe themselves.  With the Red Flag ‘Groomer’s Tell’ that the school should keep this secret from parents.

To a certain extent, this is already being implemented.

A High School in Perthshire has already practised this (2019/20) with a 15/16-year-old natal female, who self-identified as male and changed her name.  The school changed all her school records to accommodate the new name – and refused to inform her mother of the change under ‘privacy/data protection law’ excuses.  And don’t even get me started on the legality of that, given that Data Protection insists on ACCURATE recording of data.

In addition to the above insanity, when the mother contacted her child’s GP to liaise with them about the medical aspects, the GP was not allowed to inform her if Puberty Blockers were being prescribed – this in spite of the young adult living full time in her care.  The Young Adult, by the way, has significant personality/mental health issues.

So that’s where we already are.  But in terms of plain old competence, let’s have a look at where the law actually stands, with regards changing the name of a minor.  The following is from Citizens Advice:

Changing your name

How to change your name

If you wish to be known by a different name you can change your name(s) (forenames, middle names, and surnames) at any time, provided you do not intend to deceive or defraud anyone.

Once you have decided to change your name, you can use the new name for all purposes. However, you will need to produce evidence that you have changed your name for most official purposes.

Although it is not necessary, it is advisable to officially record the change of name with the Registrar General (see below).

In some cases it would not be in your interest to have the change recorded, for example, in the case of domestic violence. A change of name is recorded on a public register and anyone, for example a violent ex-partner, would have access to the change of name.

Changing a child’s name

Changing the name of a child (under the age of 16) can only be done by someone who has parental responsibilities for the child. This will usually be the child’s parents if the parents are married, or the child’s mother if the parents are not married. An unmarried father can only change a child’s name if he has acquired parental responsibilities towards the child. He may have acquired these rights if, from 4 May 2006, he registered his child’s birth jointly with the child’s mother. Alternatively he can acquire parental responsibilities and rights through a parental responsibilities agreement or a court order.

There is more information about changing a child’s name on the National Records for Scotland website .

If more than one person has parental responsibilities for the child, they must all agree to the change of name.

A mother who is under sixteen herself can change her child’s name.

A person who gave the child’s forename in baptism also has the right to apply to change the child’s name. This usually only happens in cases where the parents have given the name initially and then decide to change it when the child is baptised.

Objecting to a child’s name being changed

If someone without parental responsibilities wants to object to a child’s name being changed, they may have to obtain a court order.

If you want to object to a child’s name being changed you should consult an experienced adviser for example, at a Citizens Advice Bureau.’

I’m not a lawyer, but already within that, I’m seeing quite a few levers by which I would be confronting the Education Authority, if it were my child.

I’m in my 50’s so school is a long way past, but I still have my qualifications and Headmasters reference, for the purpose of applying for jobs.  All of which are in my name, which matches that on my birth certificate.

I would hate to be applying for jobs in my 20’s, 30’s and 40’s and having to explain a mental health issue from the teenage years at school, due to qualifications having a different ‘gender name’ on them from my birth certificate.  At the very least it could be said, this is not a wise policy for the schools to be adopting.

And from a family perspective, my step mother was adopted, and given a very Anglo-Saxon name (which she hated), as was the policy in the Highlands, post WW2.  She made enquiry, but it was not until she was 16 years of age, that she was able to legally change her name by deed poll to the Gaelic one she preferred.  So, you see, the name you have, the legal name you have, has legal status and changing it in an official capacity is a thing…’specially for kids.

We live in an age, where increasingly the arguments of national and personal security, from fraud to international terrorism, argue the need for Identify Cards… and yet when it comes to our names, gender woo woo, enables all normal rules and precautions to be thrown to the wind.  If only this were the least of it.

However, I suspect, that it’s not so much about a boy called Sue… I suspect it’s the parents who will sue… and once again, perhaps on purpose, or perhaps through complete stupidity, our Scorched Earth National Party in Government will bring egg to the faces of the Indy Movement.
